Chef's Choice 839 Krumkake Express

Forgotten taste of heaven
Very good unit to make krumkakes. The recipes that ship with the unit are easy to make and taste excellent. In the weeks following the purchase of this krumkake maker I must have baked over 100 krumkakes and was never disappointed!

Pros: Looks and feels good. Makes cakes up to 6" in diameter and very thin. The barrocco ornament of the iron looks very pretty on the cake.

Cons: To achieve the unified golden color of the cake must use temperature setting no higher than 3, otherwise they come out with patchy color. Because of this, each cake takes approx. 2 minutes to bake.

I have not tried the VillaWare unit, which claims to bake two 5" krumkakes in 30 seconds, but if that's the case than it could be a better choice for someone who needs to accomodate a large party of people fast.

Update 10/17/2008: Friend of mine has the VillaWare maker and she is very happy with it, since she can bake two at a time in about 30 sec. But I have tried her cakes...

KrumKake Express, Quick and easy to use!
My family is from Norway, so every christmas since I was little we all gathered in the kitchen to make Krumkake, but with the old handheld iron, the kind you put over the burner and guessed at how long it took, and burned your hands frequently. It was still fun, but thank goodness with technological advances comes the Krumkake Express! Still just as fun as the old fashioned one, and this time you can have perfect Krumkake every single time.

It comes with the roller of course, and the pattern on the iron itself is beautiful. It also comes with a recipe just in case you dont have one! We fill ours with sour cream and lingonberries, ice cream, lemon custard and just eat them plain!

I have had mine now for almost 2 years and it still works perfectly.

Krumkake
Makes thin krumkaker the way a Norwegian likes them.! The ability to select color intensity is very nice - but you need to know what to look for! Too hot iron will bake thin batter faster than you expect. First time use, pay attention, but then you are set. Very convenient, easy to clean. This iron has become my best friend, since I can serve delicious krumkaker in no time. Well worth the money.

Braun KFK500-BK AromaDeluxe 10-Cup Replacement Carafe, Black

A Little Sensitive
My husband loves this coffee pot. The problem is, it is a little sensitive. He was washing it with a brush and barely bumped it on the sink, and while it did not break it did put a large crack around the carafe. We are very careful while handling it, primarily for the reasons listed by other reviewers, and we've only had it about 6 weeks. Maybe the glass is a little thin or not tempered properly? Either way, be careful while washing it.

Just as good as my Original Coffeepot
I ordered this as a replacement when my Braun (model 3104, european 220v) coffeemaker's original carafe was broken. I was concerned that it may not work since the drip function is triggered by the coffee pot being in just the right place. It works perfectly, though, and looks exactly like the original. I've seen some reviews that indicate the glass is weak or too thin, but I haven't had any problems; seems to be of identical quality to the first carafe (which, by the way, was knocked off the counter onto a tile floor, so no surprise it broke!).

Thanks, this is just like the one that came with this coffee pot.
I like the ease of holding the handle. The material gives you a good grip. The last carafe lasted two years.

Consistent waffling
Update: Daily use, keeps going and turns out excellent waffles.
I mentioned below that waffle batter can be stored in the fridge. Try leaving it out overnight. The batter turns slightly sour, and still makes great waffles, but with a sourdoughish flavor that is pure heaven with maple syrup. And you can make some and leave it next to the waffle iron the previous night so all you have to wait for in the morning is for this waffle maker to heat up.

Interesting that this product is getting polarized reviews. Either very good or terrible. Here's my experience and then comments others might find useful.

- I made a batch of chocolate waffles to freeze (to reheat and serve with ice-cream). All 14 turned out perfect. Before that, I made 7 regular waffles that came out GBD - Golden Brown and Delicious. All I did was follow the light and use settings from 3 to 4.
- Going back and forth to get my preferred color was easy because 3 was still 3 after going to 4 (and...

Great waffler
I am so surprised by the negative reviews of this product. We've had this waffler for a year now and have used it A LOT. I'd estimate 75 times- usually once or twice a week. We've never had a problem with sticking and the waffler is going strong. The waffles turn out great, every time.

One thing to consider, waffles require you to use oil in the batter. It's what gives them the nice crispy golden brown outside, and I imagine it helps with the sticking too. Now, I've never encountered a waffle recipe that doesn't call for oil, but it makes me wonder if those who have problem with sticking are simply using pancake batter???

We tried other wafflers with our regular batter recipe and the results were awful- heavy and dense. This waffler makes a nice light waffle. The selector really works to get the desired done-ness, it's a great feature and we've found the results to be very reliable.

In short, we think this is a great product. Our experience with other wafflers...

a perfect fit
This Copper bowl liner is made by Old Dutch. Stated on lthe label, "this item is not manufactured or endorsed by KitchenAid." That said, I was all the more impressed that it fits the Kitchen Aid stand mixer bowl perfectly. It looks exactly like the picture on this web site. The outside has a brushed finish, and the inside is beautiful with a lovely mirror finish. It is not laquered, so it is ready to use. The label on the bowl states, "This copper liner is made specifically for increasing the volume of air that can be beaten into egg whites, or mixtures containing egg whites. Use for other purposes is not recomended." It does make a perfect meringue. It has one job, and it does it well. Hand washing is recomended.

I just opened the box and took out the bowl..the outside is pretty beat up looking, i'm hoping i can clean it up. not real happy with the way it looks on the outside. and the label is very dirty.

Lenox Butler's Pantry Earthenware Large Pitcher

Praise bears repeating
I'm not a major Butler's Pantry collector, but I do love a graceful silhouette -- and this is the most beautiful pitcher I own. The rest of my tableware features brightly colored pottery and mouth-blown glassware, but this classic ivory pitcher is the only one sitting on my counter.

It's a large capacity beverage container, with a very comfortable handle and well-designed spout for pouring.

This review applies to all of the Gorham Studio flatware, not just the serving set. The design is classic and appealing, and the pieces feel good in the hand. The stainless steel is high quality and should last for decades. It is not a standard bright silver in color, but is slightly darker, sleeker, and more elegant.

Gorham Studio 4-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Serving Set

functional addition to your existing set
Pros:
1) dishwasher friendly
2) scratch resistant (for the most part)
3) great for everyday use, but stylish enough for formal entertaining
4) this set includes two very generously sized serving spoons (Table spoons), which I have found to be incredibly useful on a regular basis.

Cons:
1) the hold heat extremely well, so watch yourself after they've been run through the d/w or been accidentally left in a pan that you're stiring
2) if you eat spaghetti like a true Italian (which I'm not, but I still eat this way), and wind your noodles around your fork by using a spoon, this is not the set for you. The spoons' bowls get scratched by the fork tines too easily and you end up with a dull-looking finish. Otherwise, this set is very scratch resistant.
3) you won't get much use from the sugar spoon, unless you are a daily coffee drinker. Same thing applies to the butter knife - unless you use butter sticks regularly, you won't get much use from this...

Fabulous, hard-working, and lovely.
We are a busy family that has used this stainless set for over five years, and have NO complaints - it's beautiful, wears well, does not scratch easily, and matches a plethora of extra serving pieces. I get complements on this pattern all the time, it's comfortable to use, and looks great even after more than five years of hard use.

Nice purchase
Wedding gift find...Looked up my friend's wedding registry on Macys.com and then purchased the gift through Amazon.com. I called Macys, and they kindly removed it from her registry even though I purchased it elsewhere. Why not? Much better price, and I was able to give more of a gift!

Braun KFK500-WH AromaDeluxe 10-Cup Replacement Carafe, White

expensive and slow delivery
Product received from one of Amazon re-salers is in good condition but they charged me FedEx delivery fee of $10 for $18 product and delivered 10 days later. Other product purchased same day were delivered in 2 days and didn't cost as fraction in the delivery charges.
I would suggest to Amazon to be very detailed in showing delivery charges when products purchased together are coming from different re-salers and therefore charge multiple delivery fees.
I am upset with Amazon failing to do that before I placed my order.

Beware of photo and attempting to email; call instead
Happy to have a replacement carafe for this Braun coffee pot; however, production no longer makes a matching carafe for the white model. The photo pictured here is of the ORIGINAL carafe that came with the coffee pot, NOT the one that is currently being produced and shipped. The current handle (as another user below writes) is nearly black (a very dark charcoal grey), which does not match the very light grey on the rest of the coffee pot (filter basket & control pad). Using the Amazon email feature only got me the same response, twice (even though I sent clear photos of the original pot w/ original carafe from another website, and photos of what actually arrived); it is as if I was emailing a robot who could only say: you got what we stock. I don't doubt that, but I wanted to draw this person's attention (Alex Hanson is the name on the responses) to the fact that what is pictured here is NOT what is being sent. When I found the phone number and called, I spoke to a nice person named...

Best Coffee Maker Ever
We have had the Braun ArmaDeluxe now since 2002 and still running strong. Many times, we have had the thoughts of getting something fancier. Nah, we stuck with this one and are so glad.

The Pot cracked a couple of times, but the best part is the replacement is still available. This makes us committed to Braun for a lifetime. Keep up the good work and keep those replacement parts stocked!

Lenox Tuscany Classics Goblet, Set of 4

Great Glasses, but be warned about shipping
I am, in general, a great fan of Lenox Tuscany stemware. These glasses are yet another example of what I love about the collection. They are, perhaps, the most plain and ordinary looking glasses in the Tuscany collection, but that only lends to their all-purpose convenience. They are intended as water goblets, of course, but their classic wineglass shape is perfect for when you don't want to fuss with matching specific wineglass shapes to specific varietals. And as always, they have the elegantly tall Tuscany stem, which really ups their presentation value.

One word of caution. When I ordered these glasses they initially came broken. In my experience, Amazon is always excellent about replacing damaged items (replacing them quickly and with no added cost to me), and this time was no exception. They shipped out replacement glasses as soon as I reported the damage. But just a word of caution: If you're ordering these glasses for a particular occasion, order them well in...

Lenox Butterfly Meadow Fine Porcelain Salt and Pepper Shakers

Pretty
They are beautiful, however they fill from a small plug in the bottom. This makes it slightly tricky to fill and nearly impossible to clean. If you live in a high humidity or bug infested area where you are likely to need to clean out your salt and pepper shakers sometimes, then you might want to consider other ones. However, they are lovely to look at.

Lenox Tuscany Classics Grand Bordeaux, Set of 4

Reidel quality at a fraction of the price!
I am wine snob/geek and know the difference that quality wine-specific stemware can make in the enjoyment of fine wine. These glasses match up with the best Riedels but you can buy. But here's the big difference: You can buy 8 Lennox classes for less than the cost of 2 comparable Reidels. It should be noted that just like Riedel, these glasses are made in Austria. We love drinking wine in these glasses, our friends love drinking wine in these glasses and you will love drinking wine in these glasses too.

One caution: I sure would like to know more about the "lifetime warranty" mentioned in the Amazon.com description, as nothing came with the glasses on this. However, this is not the first time that I have been milead by Amazon.com on warranty issues.

Exceeded expectations
These glasses will 'wow' you right out of the box. I came back and ordered more. These glasses are the type you want to grab first if you ever have company over as their stature is gorgeous and the weight is nice in your hand. As to the question about the warranty, look for a little index card in the box. Basically, if you ever break one, Lenox will send you a new one for 1/2 of retail plus shipping.

Exactly what I was looking for
Already have a few sets of these glasses and wanted to add several more. Careful with the stems as they are long and can easily break - they are great wine glasses!

Love, love, love my Federal Platinum Frost flatware! Like the previous reviewer stated, they feel great. They have a nice weight, but not bulky. They have been through my dishwasher hundreds of times and still look as beautiful as they did the day I got them. They are suitable for everyday or for entertaining. They're great!

We love this setting
After searching extensively for placesettings for our wedding registry, we were about to give up when we stumbled on these. We love the look of the pieces, but more importantly, we love the feel. Too many settings today are bulky, or odd shaped, but these have a classic feel with a modern design. Highly recommended!

Lenox Tuscany Classics Pilsner Glasses, Set of 4

I like the glasses very much, however one arrived broken and it was a hassle to find out how to send it back. They do say you can send back the broken glass and the pieces and they will replace it for 1/2 price. I needed the glasses for a party that was looming and so I just kept the three good ones. I couldn't find a telephone number to talk to a real person about it all.

funny story - i was drinking with some comrades saturday night and like a drinking vampire i somehow bit into this glass. the best way to drink a pils but be warned, it is fragile.

A good beer glass
I like my beer, this is a nice quality glass. This has a thin lip and a solid feel. I should of bought more. They have held up well in the dishwasher. They arrived safe and sound but they were not packed particularly well.

Lenox Butterfly Meadow Fine Porcelain Oval Baker

This not only works as a baker but is perfect for serving anything that has juice that you want to keep with the food.

Beautiful
Love it! Even more beauitful than the picture! Possibly the most beautiful peice in the collection. Colors are clear and bright. Peice has a nice feel to it. It is small though. You're not going to be able to bake a nice big casserole in it to take and show off your gorgeous dish.

Who Says you can't be Useful and Beautiful?
First let me say that this is a very useful dish for casseroles, and large dishes. It is ovensafe and dishwasher safe. I always try to spray it with Pam before I bake in it, but you don"t have to.

This is an exceptionally beautiful dish. The scallops and flowers are done in an extremely artistic way. This is a dish you would want to take to a covered dish party (Just be careful that someone doesn't take it when you are not looking!!) I just love the Lenox Butterfly Meadow Pattern products. They are so interesting and can be used in so many ways.

Gorham Studio 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set, Service for 4

Simple, elegant, durable
This is the flatware we have used day-to-day for about four years now, and I still love it. In fact, I'm going to order replacement pieces for the ones that have disappeared over the years, and expand our original set. The weight and balance feels very comfortable in your hand. They are easy to clean. Our pieces have been washed by hand and in the dishwasher, and though they now have faint scratches all over from use, they still shine and look beautiful, just as stainless steel should.

the deluxe "starter set" of the Studio line
When we got married 2 1/2 years ago, this was the "everyday" set that we picked out. Since then, we have gotten daily use from them, and it is this amount of usage that I base my review on...

Pros:
1) dishwasher friendly

Not the quality of original set
I ordered this set to add to my existing set that we have had for years. These are significantly lighter and not of the same quality. Not sure if it is the dealer or the fact that Gorham is using less quality material. Disappointed but will keep since it will be used at our second home for now.

Lenox Tuscany Classics Iced Beverage, Set of 4

Lenox Tuscany Stemmed Glasses - I LOVE THEM!!!
These are the best stemmed glasses! I use them as my everyday glasses, put them in my dishwasher and they come out great! They are elegant, the perfect size and very nice to hold. The top lip of the glass just slightly curves outward and makes it the perfect beverage glass. I refill my glass with water throughout the day and find I end up drinking more just because of the appearance being more appealing than a standard drinking glass. It sounds CRAZY but it does make a difference. Whenever friends are over they always comment on how they love these glasses, men & women. If you get these glasses you won't be disappointed. Also, mine came with a breakage warranty of which I've never had to use but is nice knowing I have it just in case.

Water glasses add elegance to your table
Lovely, classy glasses that have that fine crystal "ting". We feel special every time we use these. The style goes well with almost any wine glass you set next to it. AND we put them in the dishwasher with no problem.

A Clear Winner
Beautiful! Well made and sound lovely when clinked. The glass is delicate making a large glass less cumbersome to hold onto. The stem help with drinks sweating in find furniture, too. They got it right!

This dish is beautiful! It's a shallow retangular dish with no pattern printed on the outside. It's great for putting asparagus, kaboos and other similar sized item. Made by porcelain and made in Indonesia. It looks prettier than on the picture. I recommend it!

Lenox Butterfly Meadow Fine Porcelain 16-Inch Platter

Beautiful platter, terrible delivery service
This platter is a beautiful addition to my set. However, I was not able to use it for the dinner party I had planned it for. The delivery company, More Quality Less Money, did not mail it out on time. I paid for overnight service and received it three days later, the night of my event. My guests and I actually noticed the package lying outside my door as we were saying good night. I'm very displeased with their service and said so in my review of them. However, when I looked to see if my review was there, it was not, and their rating is 99%. So beware when ordering from them.

It's enough for almost everything:salad, pasta, rice-for-4, even making pickle or cookie batter.

Perfect for small party
This is a beautiful serving piece for Winter Greetings. The one thing I would mention is that the size is right for about four people, maybe up to six?, but not for a single vegetable for a larger group. To some, this would seem unnecessary to say, but the sizes of Lenox china sometimes surprise buyers. I like it because it is not too heavy to pass, but depending on the use it will get, you might consider purchasing a second piece. No, I don't get a commission. :-)

I was very happy to get my order in time to give as a Christmas present. It matches the set my reative has perfectly. It is a large bowl that can be used for individual soup serving, or perhaps as a small serving bowl on the table for vegtables, etc.

Did not meet needs!
It ended not meeting my needs. I have the pasta bowl and the soup bowl from the set and they are not the same size. It appears that they are now the same size.

Lenox makes beautiful dishes
The Lenox Winter Greetings pattern is nothing short of breathtaking. I love mine, and the workmanship is exceptional. That said, there are a couple of things to remember. These dishes need to be hand washed. More importantly, while the placesettings are fairly reasonable here on Amazon, the supplemental pieces are pricey and very difficult to find. I would strongly recommend that one consider the specific extra pieces that would be desired and look for and price them prior to purchasing the basics. Places to look for them besides Amazon would be Ebay, the Lenox website, and replacement.com. You may also have to check Froogle to locate other internet sites.

Beautiful line at a decent price! My mother has been dreaming of owning this collection for years. We purchased this place setting for her for Christmas and will be buying others from this line for future gift giving events. I shopped around a lot online for the Lenox Winter Greetings andfound that Amazon has the best price when shipping is taken into consideration.

I bought this at Amazon for half price of retail, a great deal for a rare piece, anything in the Federal Platinum series that has a cover is rare and expensive. Hard to beat Lenox quality for formal dining sets. It's actually quite large and elegant but simple. Great price and well packaged

Classic Holiday China, an Heirloom Set
Like fine china from times gone by this is a wonderful set. Whether you start with a few pieces and add on every year or start with a full setting it is a great holiday tradition. We use ours for all our special meals from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. Lenox has added some wonderful service pieces over the last few years as well. One of my favorites is a two bowl set with seal tight lids. The bowls are refrig, dishwaher, oven and microwave safe. The lids when on will not spill a drop and look lovely on the table. (They do lack the gold trim of the other pieces so they can be more go in the microwave, etc). Another plus is that most every department store carries it so it is easy to find and is always on sale before and after the holidays. You can spice it up with the plaid accent plates or the scenic dessert plate set - all are beautiful. I hope you enjoy them as much as we have.

High Quality Product
I purchased these bowls to use for Spaghetti/Pasta, at first I was worried they might end up being too small but in reality they prove to be about the right size for a single serving, leaving you room for perhaps a second but otherwise plenty for the average person.
The quality is unbeatable, true bone china with platinum bands just looks elegant. Obviously you have to treat them right as they are not microwave safe and should be hand washed if you ask me.

Absolutely Gorgeous but packaging so so
I have wanted this pattern for a really long time but they are pretty expensive so I have put it off. I finally decided to just take the plunge and start buying it a place setting at a time. The prices at Amazon are great and they let you know when they have dropped in price. The sets are everything I hoped for. Only problem is that I have had two shipments arrive with broken saucers. In the big picture this is not a huge problem as Amazon replaced them immediately and returns were a piece of cake, but as it happened more than once I would think there must be a better way to package the sets. Still extremely happy with my purchases, they are more beautiful than I hoped and are worth every penny.

I was looking for an all purpose bowl for my good china. After considering a few options I selected this bowl. I was quite surprised at how shallow the bowl was. After the shock wore off I decided that I had made the correct choice. This is a good choice for "soup or salad" but you would not want to serve soup to a hungry man in this bowl if soup was all he was going to get.
